BSF Enterprise Announces Worldwide Commercialisation Partnership for ETSYL®

BSF Enterprise PLC has signed Heads of Terms with SCHAKAU Managementberatung GmbH for the worldwide exclusive commercialisation of ETSYL®, its proprietary bioactive peptide developed through the Group’s tissue-engineering research.

The agreement represents an important step in the commercial development of ETSYL®, extending its potential application beyond tissue engineering into cosmetics, skincare, dermocosmetics and luxury beauty.

From Tissue Engineering to Luxury Skincare

ETSYL® was originally developed by BSF’s subsidiary, 3D Bio-Tissues, as part of its research into cell growth and the production of engineered tissues. The Group’s research identified broader potential for the bioactive peptide through its activity in cellular and extracellular matrix processes, opening a route into skincare and cosmetic applications.

The development illustrates the breadth of BSF Enterprise’s technology portfolio and its strategy of creating commercially relevant products from its underlying biotechnology expertise.

A Worldwide Commercialisation Partnership

Under the Heads of Terms, SCHAKAU Managementberatung GmbH has been granted worldwide exclusive commercialisation, distribution and licensing rights for ETSYL® across cosmetics, skincare, dermocosmetics and luxury beauty.

The initial commercialisation structure targets a 10-year exclusive term, subject to agreed annual volume targets following an initial 12-month ramp-up period. SCHAKAU has allocated an estimated €300,000 towards clinical claim substantiation, regulatory compliance, brand development and international distribution.

SCHAKAU intends to introduce ETSYL® as a core ingredient within its luxury skincare brand, HANDS OF GOD, while also developing wider B2B licensing opportunities with other cosmetic brands.

Creating Multiple Commercial Revenue Streams

The partnership has been structured to provide BSF Enterprise with multiple potential revenue streams while retaining ownership of the underlying technology.

3D Bio-Tissues will supply ETSYL® as the active bioingredient, creating a manufacturing and supply revenue opportunity. Initial supply revenues are expected during the 12-month product preparation phase ahead of retail launch.

In addition, BSF Enterprise will receive 50% of net third-party licensing income generated through brand partnerships secured by SCHAKAU, after applicable compliance and patent costs. BSF retains 100% ownership of the underlying patents, trade secrets and manufacturing know-how.

Demonstrating the Value of the BSF Enterprise Platform

The ETSYL® partnership demonstrates how BSF Enterprise’s research and intellectual property can generate commercial opportunities across multiple markets.

3D Bio-Tissues has developed expertise and intellectual property in the growth of cells and production of cultivated tissues, with its technologies supporting applications across different areas of biotechnology.

ETSYL® provides another example of this approach: a technology originating from tissue-engineering research is now being developed towards a global commercial opportunity in the luxury beauty sector.

Building Commercial Value from Biotechnology

For BSF Enterprise, the agreement represents more than the development of a single product. It demonstrates the potential for the Group’s proprietary biotechnology and intellectual property to generate opportunities across multiple sectors, while creating routes to commercialisation through strategic partners.

With SCHAKAU now responsible for downstream product development, regulatory activities, clinical claim substantiation and international market development, BSF can focus on the continued supply and development of ETSYL® while retaining ownership of the underlying technology.

The ETSYL® partnership is therefore an important example of BSF Enterprise’s strategy of converting biotechnology research into scalable commercial opportunities across healthcare, advanced materials, food technology and consumer applications.
